He directs you to a magical tree (likely the World Tree or Yggdrasil Tree as it also gives Yggdrasil Leaves) and tells you his friend will be there at dawn and he wants you to give him a magical powder. He asks you to help an old friend of his. He keeps several of them in his chatteau. ![]() Felix is obsessed with cats and great sabercats in particular. On the western continent you can find Felix’s Chatteau. In one particular fight I was down to only Yangus with HP in the teens before he managed to run away. Angelo had Zing (chance of reviving a character) but he often was one to bite the dust with his low HP. On many islands I would have a party member or two fall in battle and then retreat to get them revived. The area around Savella Cathedral has strong enemies that show up in large groups, such as groups of six or more. Neos has enemies like the Gold Golem, which gives a ton of gold but also is very physically strong and can use critical hits, as well as many enemies with strong AoE attacks. You’d better be ready though because most of these areas have stronger monsters than Baccarat, the next story objective. DQ8 doesn’t go quite that far but there are a number of islands and otherwise cut-off areas to visit before progressing the story. Some even become sandbox-like after getting a ship. Getting the ship is generally a gateway to exploration in DQ games. Your human team can’t be hurt during it so you’re essentially casting a spell to do three rounds of your monster team’s damage. It costs 10 MP, on par with late game spells, but it’s worth it in a tough fight. Your monster team gets called in to fight for three rounds while the human heroes get a break. One reward of this sidequest is giving the Guv the Call Monster Team ability, which does exactly as it says. These monsters scale up with the Guv’s level and will be more powerful than monsters of the same type in a random encounter. Since random encounters also appear there now they added a symbol above the special monsters’ heads so you can tell them apart, a very nice feature. Monsters for this sidequest aren’t random encounter foes they’re found in specific places on the world map. Win a rank and you’ll get two prizes: an item or piece of equipment and Morrie will give you a Monster Arena specific prize such as being able to keep more monsters on the bench. Monsters don’t get their HP or MP refilled between battles. Thus, you have to just make a good team and hope for the best. As is typical for monster arenas in DQ you don’t get to control your team in the arena. ![]() To enter you form a team of three monsters. Do so and he shows you inside to the monster arena.
